Otis, standing tall and looking classy for his card! Congratulations!

Hi! I'm Otis, a harlequin Great Dane. I've had a bit of a rough start. I was all alone wandering around the streets. Finally, one day some nice people picked me up and brought me to a shelter. I was very hungry and sick. When I was feeling better my foster mom took me to a Mardi Gras dog parade. I didn't know it at the time, but that is where I met my forever parents! I am so happy in my new home! I love to go to the dog park, and sit in my parents lap because I love them!

Lizzie is one of our most excited TYP winner! Congratulations!

I was about three years old when my Mom found me in the animal shelter. She kept saying she would know The One by "something in the eyes." I was scared and shy, but looked right into her eyes - and her heart - to let her know it was me. Now I have a good forever home and a special vest I wear to visit people in a hospital, a hospice, and an assisted living facility. They pet me and give me treats, and I try to look into their hearts, too, to make them feel better. It must work because they always smile when they see me coming. If you would like to know more about my work, check out the National Capital Therapy Dogs, Inc at www.nctdinc.org.

Maya and Sweet Pete showing some love to those who voted for them in the TYP contest! Congratulations Winners!

Hi, I'm Maya and this is me getting a kiss from my new brother Sweet Pete. He had a rough start in life. I guess he had bad humans to start cuz they left him tied to a pole in a parking lot, which landed him in dog jail. Then the nice people at Alaskan Malamute Rescue of So Cal found him there and took him to their place. My HuParents went there, adopted him, and brought him home to me! Now I have a new brother whom I love, and he has a happy new life and never has to worry ever again - Life is good!!!!

Clover and Kiwi, what a pair!

I lay in the corner of my cage, curled up in a little ball breathing heavily from running so fast that day. My master was trying to train me to be a hunting dog but I'm afraid I wasn't very good at it and that made my master very angry. I guess I just wasn't cut out to be a hunter.

The next day, Master picked me up and tossed me in a cage and drove me to an animal shelter where he left me. I howled a little as the receptionist picked me up and took me into the back room where a bunch of scared, skinny dogs were lying in their cages. She put me into the cage and locked the door.

One day, a representative of City Dogs Rescue came and looked around the shelter. She said, "That's the sweet girl we want to rescue." Her kind looking eyes met mine and she walked over and fed me a treat. She put her fingers through the metal cage door and I licked them tentatively. A few weeks later, I was on my way to Washington, DC where my foster family came to pick me up. A nice lady named Megan and her daughter Hailey were both so excited to see me.

When we got to their home, my dad came out with another beagle, just my size, named Kiwi. She was so nice and welcoming. The happiest day of my entire life was when they named me Clover and signed the papers to adopt me. I love my sisters, Kiwi and Hailey, my mommy, and my daddy. I am now a very happy three-year-old beagle. I get to play with Kiwi and snuggle with mommy in bed at night. I've got the best forever home, ever!

- Kiwi and Clover are lovingly owned by the Emerson family.

Freedom the Horse!

Hi, my name is Freedom. I was born on August 9th, 2012 at Freedom Hill Horse Rescue in Dunkirk, MD. I am a mustang colt and my mom's name is Liberty. She's a grullo colored mustang, and I think she's the best. My dad, a black mustang, is named El Dorado. My whole family was rescued by the nice ladies at Freedom Hill Horse Rescue on September 11th, 2011 from a bad place where there wasn't any food. My family ate the bark and leaves off the trees just to have something to eat! My auntie Takoda was nursing her baby, Apple, and an orphaned foal, Maverick, both at the same time because Maverick's mommy died from starvation.

After my family came to Freedom Hill, they grew healthy and happy and found their adoptive forever homes. Everyone was excited to learn that my mom, Liberty, was going to have a baby....me! Before I was even born our trainer, Jason, said he wanted to adopt me! I've learned so much in the past year watching Jason train my mommy. I know how to cross bridges, walk over tarps and I've even had a saddle on my back. I can't wait to go on trail rides when I grow up a little more. I love my new home and I am very grateful that my family was saved.

Meet Willow, a TYP Winner! Congratulations!

Hi, my name is Willow! I was born with a breeder in Ohio, and one day a family came to pick me up to take me home. Unfortunately, my ears were "broken" and they didn't know what to do with me. I was just as confused as they were, and sadly, ended up in a shelter. But lucky me, a wonderful rescue called Green Dogs Unleashed got me out of that place! But wait, this gets better! My Mom, who had a deaf Aussie named Nanok, was also in touch with GDU. To make a long story short, my new family picked me up three days later. They even got me a trainer so we can better understand each other. I understand "sit," "stay," "come," and "down" in sign language! Am I smart or what??? Luckily, I've found my furever home, which is awesome since I LOVE it here, and I think they love me too!

Patriotic Jacob Deserved to Win!

Hi, my name is Jacob. I am 3 years old and I live in Massachusetts with my mom and dad who rescued me when I was 8 months old. I have a wonderful family and lots of friends. We all love each other very much!! I love to go for several walks every day and say hello to all my neighbors. Some of them even carry treats in their cars for me!! I love everybody and everything!!! I'm super friendly and enjoy being petted by everyone I meet. I also like to go everywhere. Car rides are sooooo much fun, especially when I go to the beach. I love to run circles in the sand and smell the sea air. I also enjoy going to the hardware store and other pet-friendly shops. Some of my other favorite activities are napping, unstuffing toys, having my tummy scratched and playing with my best friends Maggie and Duncan!!!

Everyone Meet Buddy! Congratulations!

I was in my first home since I was a puppy, but as I started to get older, I was too big and played too rough for the little dogs in my house. I also had a bit of a hoarding problem and would get very growly at anyone who would take my toys or special treats away. I was turned over to GRREAT and hoped I would find a home. I went to a foster home that had another male golden that was not quite 3 yet (just like me!) and an older female golden. I had the best time playing with them. I still would growl and snap at them and the people, but I eventually realized that we all got food and there were plenty of toys. I also found that if I gave the ball up, they would throw it and I could run and get it. Wow! I couldn't run a lap around the yard when I got here and now I can keep up with the other dogs. The best thing - they have a goldfish pond, which I would swim in, but I would always get yelled at. One day they put a fence around it and I couldn't swim anymore. But then the pool opened - yippee! I jumped right in! I couldn't understand why the other dogs don't like to swim? They are golden's after all... My foster family (people and dogs) loved me so much I was adopted by them. I now share all my toys and I sleep on the furniture and swim in the pool. I still hoard the tennis balls in my crate, but I won't bite if you try to take one, as long as you throw it to me.
